Home Decoration Inspiration at Houzz

Do you need help decorating your new house, designing a room or purchasing a gift? Sites like our favorite Houzz.com give you all this and more. They provide a one stop resource for planning and exploring designs and products.

The inspiration behind Houzz.com is that it is a place where you can browse and save beautiful home photos, explore designs and ideas and even find construction professionals to help do the work. This month we’ll show you how to get started at Houzz.com and what you will find there.

Start out at Houzz.com and sign in using your email account – this lets you save your ideas and photos of the things you find so you can revisit them. You will be promoted to create an Ideabook folder for your designs. If you don’t want to do that at this stage click No Thanks and you can do it later on.

Now you’re free to browse Houzz to get inspiration. For example if you simply want to view items to buy, choose Products > Décor from the top menus and then drill down to the items you want to see by choosing the Room on the left. You can also specify a style and a price.

To save an item so that you can come back to it at a later time click the Plus button. If you don’t see it, click the Shopping Cart button and then the Plus button. You can now save it to an existing Ideabook or create a new Ideabook for it. If desired you can select to make any of your comments private. Click Save to Ideabook and then Done.

To research larger projects such as remodeling a living room click the Photos option at the top of the screen and then choose the room on the left. You can now browse photos of living room designs to get an idea of something you may want to emulate. You can filter by Style and price and, if you see something you like, save it to an Ideabook.

At any time you can click the Your Houzz button in the top right corner of the screen and click Your Ideabooks. This will take you to your Ideabooks where you can review the items that you had saved. You can also look at Ideabooks that others have assembled by clicking the Ideabooks link at the top of the screen.

If you are looking for a contractor click the Find a Pro link at the top of the screen. You can then type in your location to see a list of professional contractors and designers in your area.
Sites like Houzz help you find curated design inspiration for large and small projects as well as things to buy to decorate your home.
